Radio Cornwall Interview

Have a listen to my first interview with Radio Cornwall. I must say it was a bit nerve-racking...

Prior to the event I was invited to think of two news items that I might like to talk about on the day - one local story and one from further away. This took me less time than expected.

I immediately found one about a local circus giving away Xmas dinner for 300. I couldn't believe it - what a generous act! Imagine how much fun that would be! As it happened they were pleased to hear from me, as they'd not managed to get much out there on social media. I just hope that me mentioning them on air helped, and that they had a fabulous party.

The other story I found was one about farming in Kenya. Traditionally the Kenyan farmers and their families don't get on with the wild elephants because of the damage the elephants cause to crops. I can just imagine them either flattening them or eating them up. There is now an initiative involving training farmers to keep bees. Elephants stay away from bees and the farmers can harvest the honey as an additional crop - perfect.

Anyway, on the day of the interview I was all set for 7am in my living room, hoping the Wifi would stay connected and my WhatsApp call would work ok. That was the nerve-racking part... as soon as I was on air talking about my book, it was great. But then my time was up and I realised I hadn't mentioned any of the shops stocking, 'Chloe and the Bright Idea', or the price of the book.

The time was 7.20am. Never mind, thought I, they'll get me back two more times for my news stories - I'll wait until then.

I waited, and waited, and waited...

At 7.55am, just before the end of the programme, they called me back and, understandably, I was anxious now, as there wasn't much time left to mention the crucial part of my own book-publishing story or the free Xmas party.

And the interviewer went straight to elephants in Africa!!!!!!! OMG it felt a bit strained and garbled after that... but you can listen yourself here. Hopefully you'll agree it didn't turn out too badly in the end :)
